The Department for Education (DfE) has published an updated version of the statutory safeguarding and child protection guidance for schools in England, Keeping Children
Safe in Education (KCSIE). Connect-Ed staff recently attended a whole day of training to update them on these changes and support their CPD in this important area.
Updates in KCSIE include:
- Expanded guidance on dealing with peer-on-peer abuse
- New guidance for staff on understanding and recognising child criminal and sexual exploitation
- A focus on the importance of reassuring victims of abuse that they are being taken seriously and will be supported
- Information on risk factors that might lead to involvement in serious violence
- Additional guidance on what information child protection records should include
A full briefing on these updates has been produced by the NSPCC and can be found here: keeping-children-safe-in-education-2021-caspar-briefing
